Naxos is the largest Greek Island and thus self-sufficient, producing its own agriculture etc. But Naxans are no less friendly and accommodating than other Greek Islanders. Like IOS, this island was relatively quiet at this time, but I still managed to discover the Temple of Apollo, trek along miles of mostly deserted beach (other than the occasional horse and nude couple) and took a tour to explore the islands wonders, including 2500 year old temples and statues dedicated to Demeter and Dionysus, pottery and olive oil making demonstrations, an old school village up in the mountains paved and created entirely of marble, and some unique eats (veal with ouzo anyone?) served by the most enthusiastic extended family of waiters I’ve ever met.
